Juan Escalon, MD, joined Orlando Health UF Health Cancer Center in 2015. He is a member of the Thoracic/Head and Neck CancersSpecialty Section at the Rod Taylor Thoracic Care Center.

Dr. Escalon is board certified in Thoracic Surgery and GeneralSurgery, specializing in surgery for tumors of the chest, includingcancers of the lung, esophagus, chest wall, and mediastinum. Healso treats benign disorders of the esophagus and has expertise inminimally invasive thoracic surgery including VATS (Video AssistedThoracic Surgery) and robotic surgery for advanced pulmonaryresections and esophagectomy.

Dr. Escalon earned his medical degree from the University of TexasMedical Branch, where he also performed his General Surgeryresidency and served as Chief Resident. In 2008, he completedfellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Yale University, where he alsoserved as Chief Resident and Instructor.

Prior to joining Orlando Health, Dr. Escalon was an attending surgeonat the William W. Backus Hospital and Hartford Hospital, part of theMemorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Alliance in Connecticut, with apractice focused on thoracic surgical oncology. He also served as aClinical Instructor for the Department of Surgery at the University ofConnecticut and was a site investigator for the implantation and useof Spiration® endobronchial valves in patients with persistent air leaksafter lung surgery.

Dr. Escalon has been published in Operative Techniques in Thoracicand Cardiovascular Surgery, Journal of the American College ofSurgeons, Clinical Chemistry, and Cardiology. He co-authored achapter in Shields textbook of General Thoracic Surgery and has madepresentations at numerous meetings and conferences. He is a memberof the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, General Thoracic Surgery Club,and International Thymic Malignancy Interest Group.

Dr. Escalon is fluent in English and Spanish.
