Our History Timeline

In the year 2000, the West Orange Healthcare District and Health Central Hospital established a plan to purchase 40 acres of land in Horizon West, Florida, for the development of a healthcare services campus that would serve the needs of the newly developing community. Though the area was mostly citrus land at the time, the board and leadership team saw the vision that the area would grow in the coming years and need reliable healthcare services.

In 2005, they purchased another 40 acres of land, located right next to the initial 40-acre purchase.

In March 2016, the WOHD and Orlando Health joined forces to improve healthcare in West Orange County. The $100 million project planned to expand the Health Central Hospital campus to bring services to Horizon West.

On January 19, 2017, Orlando Health and the WOHD officially broke ground on Orlando Health Emergency Room and Medical Pavilion – Horizon West.

The Orlando Health Emergency Room and Medical Pavilion – Horizon West opened to the community on September 25, 2018. The emergency room featured 24 patient beds plus an additional six observation beds, while the medical pavilion provided much-needed healthcare services, including primary care, family medicine, OB/GYN, general surgery, a diagnostics laboratory, orthopedics, neurology, urology, cardiology, a pharmacy, outpatient rehabilitation and a center for health improvement.

On September 19, 2019, Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital held its topping-out ceremony with the placement of a ceremonial construction beam. With structural construction complete, the hospital was on track to open its doors to the community in early 2021.
