Bio
Juan Escalon, MD, joined Orlando Health Cancer Institute in 2015. He is a member of the Thoracic/Head and Neck Cancers Specialty Section at the Rod Taylor Thoracic Care Center.
Dr. Escalon is board certified in Thoracic Surgery and General Surgery, specializing in surgery for tumors of the chest, including cancers of the lung, esophagus, chest wall, and mediastinum. He also treats benign disorders of the esophagus and has expertise in minimally invasive thoracic surgery including VATS (Video Assisted Thoracic Surgery) and robotic surgery for advanced pulmonary resections and esophagectomy.
Dr. Escalon earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch, where he also performed his General Surgery residency and served as Chief Resident. In 2008, he completed his fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Yale University, where he also served as Chief Resident and Instructor.
Prior to joining Orlando Health, Dr. Escalon was an attending surgeon at the William W. Backus Hospital and Hartford Hospital, part of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Alliance in Connecticut, with a practice focused on thoracic surgical oncology. He also served as a Clinical Instructor for the Department of Surgery at the University of Connecticut and was a site investigator for the implantation and use of Spiration® endobronchial valves in patients with persistent air leaks after lung surgery.
Dr. Escalon has been published in Operative Techniques in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Journal of the American College of Surgeons, Clinical Chemistry, and Cardiology. He co-authored a chapter in Shields textbook of General Thoracic Surgery and has made presentations at numerous meetings and conferences. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, General Thoracic Surgery Club, and International Thymic Malignancy Interest Group.
