Vascularized Lymph Node Transfer

Our surgeons are among a handful in the country offering the revolutionary microsurgical reconstructive procedure called Vascularized Lymph Node Transfer (VLNT), which offers complete or near-complete elimination of lymphedema. During the procedure, five to eight healthy lymph nodes are transferred to a lymphatic area damaged by cancer or treatment. In time, these vascularized lymph nodes will grow into new lymphatic channels, bridging the gap between blocked and unblocked channel and allowing the lymphatic fluid to drain properly. This procedure has shown promising long-term results for many patients. After the procedure, symptoms typically decrease or resolve completely. Your patients will experience reduced pain, swelling and tightness of the extremity, improved range of motion and a welcome feeling of lightness in the affected limb. Many of your patients will begin to see symptom improvement within one to two months after surgery. Maximum results are achieved within two years.
